Implementation Support Mission for the Ethiopia Flood Management Project Concludes October 7, 2025 (MoWE) — The Implementation Support Mission for the Ethiopia Flood Management Project (EFMP), which was running from September 29 to October 7, 2025, has officially concluded in the presence of H.E. Mr. Motuma Mekasa, Minister’s Advisor at State Minister Rank. During the closing session, Mr. Saurabh Dani, World Bank Task Team Leader(TTL), provided over the last 6 months project performance and field visit observations and recommendations of civil works, including gabion, compaction, dredging materials, and river flow channel alignment. He emphasized that execution of these works need to boost overall performance of the project.without compromising Quality and safe guards issues Mr. Saurabh also raised concerns regarding procurement performance, noting that several planned procurements have not yet been uploaded to the system,has big impact on ratings. The Ethiopian Meteorology Institute (EMI) and the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC), implementation issues were also discussed, and both institutions were urged to take corrective actions promptly. Following the remarks, Project coordinators from the Project Management Unit (PMU), EMI, and EDRMC provided responses and clarifications on the raised points. In his closing remarks, H.E. Mr. Motuma Mekasa urged the PMU technical staff to act immediately on recommendations, with special attention to the civil works and stressed procurement bottlenecks, staffing gaps, contract management, and similar challenges must be resolved promptly to safeguard the project’s overall performance. The wrap-up session was attended by representatives from the World Bank, Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), EDRMC, and EMI.
